Hello my name is Alan, and I would like to welcome you to the Windypics Construction & Demolition Gallery. This section covers mainly civil engineering projects covering local building/restoration work, and also many of the buildings being demolished as well. The gallery features both the vehicles used (excavators etc.), and images of the construction and demolition work itself.
This started out as another of my 'occasional' interests, and came about mainly due to having too much spare time on my hands whilst hanging around Railways Stations waiting for trains to arrive. If I saw something interesting happening on a nearby building or demolition site, I would go over and take a few shots, and as often happens, after a while you start to get interested in seeing the various vehicles that are in use, and seeing how the project develops. I must admit that I now enjoy this sort of photography very much, and find myself spending a lot more time looking out for these types of photo opportunities nowadays.
In this gallery you can see my collection of construction photographs from the Scout Moor Wind Farm project, as well as updates on the major project to rebuild the Naden Valley Reservoirs, the new shopping and leisure developments in Rawtenstall, and also the Bacup Town Centre Bridge reconstruction. At the moment the number of demolition sites seem to outnumber the construction sites, and with a recession looming this may well be the pattern now for some time to come, and it's even more important that a visual record of many of these buildings is made before they are gone forever. I try to visit these sites at least twice a month so that I can see and photograph the progress that has taken place, and since I have a long time interest in local history, especially the industrial history of the area, it's very rewarding to make a record of these events for future posterity.
